KIDS' MEALS
i3 HOUSTON TEAM
On August 20, 2020, the entire i3 Houston staff volunteered with Kids’ Meals, a local organization that makes and delivers free, healthy meals directly to the homes of hungry children.
The day began at the Kids’ Meals office where we divided into four delivery driver teams. Each team loaded food supplies into their vehicle and was given a route to deliver the meals directly to the children’s homes. The routes took us to parts of Houston many of us were unfamiliar with, an eye-opening experience that revealed the depth of need and impact this organization is making. Many of the families and children were expecting us and happy to accept the decorated paper bag lunches.
After meal delivery, our teams met back at the Kids’ Meals office to pack lunches and make sandwiches for the next day’s delivery teams. Between the eleven of us, we were able to pack around 1,100 lunches, a small dent in the 7,000 meals needed every weekday.
Since 2006, Kids’ Meals has given more than 6.7 million free meals to food insecure children in 43 Houston-area zip codes. Kid’s meals is a first-responder to children ages five years-old and younger facing debilitating hunger due to extreme poverty. Kids’ Meals is the only program of its kind in the nation, with a fleet of 9 vans sharing not just food but connection to more than 43 wrap-around service partners who are here to help families break the poverty cycle.
